Altered Approach – Altered Outcome: How NZT in the movie Limitless, applies to real estate.
Let me tell you a tale, from the movie I just watched, called Limitless. It’s a few years old, with Bradley Cooper, where he plays a struggling author named Eddie Mora.
Eddie was in trouble. With the draft of his new book due in just five days – he had yet to write even a single word. Each morning, he told himself, “This is going to be the day…” Yet for months on end, he did nothing but sit around, bouncing a basketball off the walls of his dingy apartment. At night, he’d retreat to a local dive bar to drown his sorrows. Then repeat the cycle over again.
He was a slob. Completely unmotivated. Career going nowhere… Behind on his rent. And to make matters worse, his live-in girlfriend, Libby – disgusted by his hygiene and lack of ambition – finally dumped him.
But then, overnight, everything changed. Eddie bumped into someone he hadn’t seen in years… his ex-brother in law – now a pharmaceutical rep – who gave him a free sample of an experimental new drug, called a NZT.
Eddie, reluctantly, took the pill thinking: “How much worse could life get?” What happened next was incredible. It worked! His mind was on fire. Suddenly, he could recall facts. And could connect “the dots” in ways he never could before.
Eddie then sat down to work on his novel and finished it in just four days.
You can imagine the reaction from his literary agent. She’s stunned when he drops the manuscript on her desk: “You’re kidding!” she says. “Words have appeared on paper? Written by you?”
“Yes,” Eddie tells her, “Just read three pages in the next hour and, if you don’t want to keep reading, I’ll give you back the advance.”
So she reads… and reads… and reads… Somehow, Eddie’s written the ultimate page-turner. And when Eddie gets home, he finds three messages on his answering machine – all from his agent.
“Eddie, give me a call when you get in.”
“Eddie, I’m 40 pages further in. Call me. It’s a little grandiose. But I’m still reading.”
“Eddie, OK. How did you do this?”
You might think this sort of result, in other areas of life, outside the context of a movie is impossible. And you’d be half right. The story I just told you, sure, is the plotline of the movie Limitless. But extraordinary results can happen in everyday life too, just usually not as fast.
I’ve seen it happen with my own two eyes too, how small changes, whether it’s mastering a new skill or slightly altering an old approach – making it more effective – can have the same “impossible” effect on the outcome.
Eddie Mora, didn’t change as a human being. He had everything he needed to write a great novel. He was smart, creative. On the cusp of something great. But all that value and
insight was trapped in his head. No matter what he tried, he couldn’t write that novel. That is, until he stumbled across a new approach, which completely altered the outcome, called NZT.
The same thing happens all the time in the real estate market. A family wants to sell their home. They’ve put a lot of thought into it. They have the right home. The right location. The right floor plan with the right upgrades. But, like Eddie, they’re stuck. Why isn’t their home selling? Why aren’t homebuyers scheduling showings or making full price offers?
In many cases, its due to having made fundamental mistakes… which, if corrected, would lead to the opposite result: success!

People often hate selling their home, because it can be as painful as trying to write the next great American novel. But with the right approach.
